What is a PANcard?
It is a laminated card issued by the income tax department containing your PAN number (this is a ten digit alphanumeric number). The PAN number has to be quoted in all financial transactions in India.

What is the Meaning of PAN card number?
PAN stands for permanent account number. This unique 10 digit alphanumeric number issued by the income tax department of India is printed on a plastic card. This number has to be quoted in all financial transactions in India.

How long does it take to get a PAN card?
It takes about 7 days for the government department to allot you a number online, and physical delivery of the hardcopy comes to you in 20 days.

Who is eligible to apply for a Indian PAN card?
A resident Indian, foreign national , PIO, foreign company and OCI (overseas citizenship holder) are eligible for applying. Basically anyone carrying any kind of financial or investment transaction in India qualify for their eligibility.

Can an NRI have a PAN card?
YES. A non resident Indian living anywhere in the world can register for it.

Do I have to pay tax, if I get a PAN no? When you get a PAN number, as far as we know, that does not require you to file taxes. If you are not generating an Income in India, you will not need to pay taxes in India. 

How often do I have to renew it and any yearly membership fee? Once you have a PAN, you will not need to renew it at all, it will be valid for ever. There is not maintaining fees either. You can only have one PAN number allotted to your name. It is illegal to have more than one.

How to apply for duplicate, corrections/changes?
You will need to send in your forms and documents. As well as a copy of your PAN card or proof that you have held one. You will have a different form to fill up than the new PAN card form.

Do companies need a it to do business in India?
All companies need a PAN to do business in India, including foreign companies. You can obtain a PAN for your company by contacting a broker.

How to find old PAN number details?
If you wish to find your PAN details, you can do so online. You can go to the government website and enter your details such as: your name and birth date. Then you will have your PAN details.

How to verify my number?
You can verify yours by visiting the UTI website or the NSDL website and entering your personal information along with your coupon number/acknowledgement number.
